Marbella Club

Marbella, Spain

A storied 60s hotel located on Marbella’s sun-kissed Costa del Sol. Opened by the decadently named Prince Alfonso von Hohenlohe in 1954, this sprawling beach property has played host to Europe’s blue-blooded elite since inception – and while its surrounding Málage locale might have transformed beyond recognition in the passing years, the original MC has barely changed a jot. Snug within manicured gardens, rooms at the Marbella Club are housed in low-slung bungalows scattered across the estate. Villas – the most exclusive room offering – sit sequestered behind yet more flora and foliage, hiding private pools and luxurious suites from mere mortals’ eyes. Life revolves around the pool deck; here is to be seen, cocktail in hand. Service, in keeping with the clientele, is faultlessly professional. Five restaurants, plus access to the neighbouring Puente Romano Hotel’s various kitchens, ensure dinners don’t get boring, while the a state-of-the-art Thalassa Spa is a recent addition that’s kept the Marbella in the top echelons of Spanish hospitality. Likewise, the new golf course is just a short drive away. It doesn’t come cheap, but a stay here is akin to joining a (very well-heeled) private club.
