Sri Lankan surf town Weligama is home to gastro bar and boutique hotel Locale. Views of Weligama Bay provide the perfect backdrop for a pan-Asian feast accompanied by the bar’s creative cocktail offering. Warm and welcoming, with dark wood featured throughout, as well as framed black and white photos of musicians on the walls, the bar is a lively space to dig into dishes such as Chengdu barbecue ribs and lagoon crab lasagne. When it comes to the cocktails, many draw on local ingredients, such as the Negroni Tropicana, enhacned with Martini Fiero aged in cinnamon, cardamom, cloves and star anise, while the Watermelon Spice is a refreshing mix of vodka and Campari with watermelon, pineapple, citrus and a dash of Tabasco. There’s a multi-use rooftop that opens for lunch and drinks as well as bottomless brunches and live bands and DJs.
