Overlooking a rocky gorge on the Arugusinyai River, deep in northern Tanzania’s Mwiba Reserve on the southern boundary of the Serengeti National Park, Mwiba Lodge is everything you’d want from a safari. The ten tented suites perch high above the acacia tree-dotted plains, each packed with all the classic mod-cons you'd expect, as well as amenities you might not in the middle of the bush – a full spa, gym, private jacuzzi and a communal infinity pool. But as charming and comfortable as this lodge is, you’re here to spot the wildlife. Every booking is allocated their own vehicle and private guide, so guests can look for the Big Five at their own pace. Night drives are also an option (can there be anything more thrilling than hearing the distant evening call of a leopard?). Other excursions include searching for honey with the hunter-gathering Hadzabe tribe or taking the relaxation route with sundowners around the firepits in the lounge areas. Breakfast, family-style sharing lunches and à la carte dinners are served in rotating locations, the latter beneath a galaxy of stars.
