One of just two restaurants in Northern Ireland with a Michelin star, Ox has redefined Belfast’s dining scene. In terms of service and technique it has all the finesse of a world-class fine diner – chef Stephen Toman is formerly of Paris’ Taillevent – with the warmth of a neighbourhood bistro. A sparse fit out, including chairs from a local church, belies the flare of five-course tasting menus that change daily. Think a single spear of white asparagus wrapped in lard. Throw in wines from unusual regions such as Corsica and a broad selection of Irish craft gins and you’ll understand why booking is essential.
