Rugged, romantic, remote… there’s nothing quite like the heather-carpeted glens and hills of Scotland. The town of Crieff sits right in the heart of this wild landscape, between the Scottish Highlands and the Lowlands. It is home to the country’s oldest working whisky distillery, The Glenturret, co-owned by French crystal house Lalique, which has a fine-dining restaurant attached to it. Guests sit on tartan-clad chairs beneath a pair of glittering chandeliers (crystal, naturally), for a tasting menu orchestrated by executive chef Mark Donald. Using local venison, fish and shellfish, as well as foraged mushrooms and aromatic plants, every dish feels true to its origins. Amuse bouches are jewel-like; afterwards, it might be langoustines with buttermilk and caviar; lobster toddy to reflect the setting; and roe deer smoked with juniper. All can be matched by the wine flight or if it’s a wee dram you're after, you’re in the right place.
