Brown's Hotel

London, UK

All the pageantry and grace of Victorian London still thrive at Brown’s Hotel. Opened to guests in 1837, the Rocco Forte owned Mayfair property touts a guest register with entries from Emperor Napoleon III to Stephen King. Staff are clad in impossible perfect traditional uniforms from top-hatted porters at the drive to white gloved servers raising cloches in the restaurant. The house car is a Bentley. Even the designer behind a buzzy remodel has a CBE; working with Sir Paul Smith, Olga Polizzi added a splash of brightness to the classic elegance with custom wallpapers, a Belvedere glass ceiling and hundreds of carefully curated lamps. The Drawing Room offers one of the city’s premier tea services in the afternoon. Named after photography legend Terence Donovan, the Donovan Bar stirs up drinks by maestro Salvatore Calabrese for the evening martini set. Under chef Adam Byatt, Charlie’s serves quintessential British fine dining down to a Sunday Roast delivered on a silver trolley. Of course, modern touches are gracefully deployed as needed throughout the 115 rooms and suites. Smart TVs, heated towel racks and Technogym equipment in the fitness center complement the experience.
