Award-winning sommelier Alex Burch is behind East Nashville’s coolest hangout, a polished, playful wine bar and restaurant set in a former church. Perch at the low-lit, custom-built bar at the centre of the soaring space, or claim one of the tables, edged by curving banquettes. The wine list here is remarkable, for novices and wine geeks alike: a lovingly-curated collection of ‘legends, up-and-comers and outsiders’, with plenty to taste by the glass. The menus, meanwhile, have taken a new tack since chef Colby Rasavong’s departure, shifting from Laotian-leaning dishes to contemporary American cooking. Mains tend to be substantial, so consider a succession of small plates: braised farm bacon with creamy mascarpone grits, saltines topped with whipped pimento cheese, or upscale chicken nuggets with a scoop of dill-spiked creme fraiche.
