At first glance, Mister Paradise might look and smell like your average fancy cocktail bar. But this raucous East Village meeting place has infused the old-school cocktail paradigm with a sense of gregariousness that turns locals into regulars. Behind-the-scenes drink-making techniques like clarification and sous-vide show expert attention to detail, but to balance the seriousness, cocktails are presented on the menu with amusing witty titles such as The Party Lobster (a spicy margarita riff) or An Awfully Big Mustache (with aged rum, scotch, beetroot caramel, toasted sesame and lemon). Large plush booths make the bar great for groups, but solo sippers are just as welcome to pull up a bar stool for conversation with the friendly bartenders – the staff are among the most collaborative and tight-knit in the city.
