Fine diner Jardin Des Sens is housed in an attractive 100-year-old villa on Ho Chi Minh’s Dien Bien Phu Street (its entrance is on Le Quy Don Street). The brainchild of identical twin brothers and Michelin three-starred French chefs Jacques and Laurent Pourcel, it is a place where stories unfold with every dish, where the plates on which the food arrives are gloriously over-sized (and the flavours even bigger) and where artful little surprises delight the eye and palate in equal measure. Menus, including an à la carte, Family Sharing and three-course business set lunch representing exceptional value at $30, fuse French cooking techniques with local colour. Dishes such as octopus salad with green bean, egg and lettuce, and roasted duck with apple purée, polenta and hibiscus sauce are backed up by a well conceived wine list featuring some lesser-known French and international bins.
