Tsuwalu

Southern Kalahari, South Africa

Tswalu delivers the African excursion of a lifetime. Set on South Africa's largest private game reserve, the 118,000-hectare destination promises up to 85 mammals and 246 birds in stunning landscape stretching from the base of Korannaberg to southern Kalahari. Yet, one mammal remains scarce; human visitors are capped at 40 guests. Guests have their choice of lodging in traditional legae or tented suites in one of three safari camps. Despite the rustic description, luxury is not sacrificed. Interiors include lush linens, personalised minibars and outdoor showers. The camps also include communal areas, perfect for libations by the fire or meals cooked by the private chef. Alternately, venture out to Klein Jan, the famously remote restaurant from Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen; both the food and location draw from surrounding North Cape nature. To better explore the dunes, savannah and mountains of that nature, Tswalu provides guests with private vehicles as well as guides and trackers. Explore some more with horse riding, nature walks, birdwatching and even a session with (habituated) meerkats. Guests also have the option to stay at Malori, a tented sleep-out experience under the stars, complete with beds, an open-air bathroom and a deck for dining and stargazing.
