Las Ventanas al Paraíso

Los Cabos

Mexican minimalism in the Baja desert

Give me the lowdown: Open since 1997, Las Ventanas Al Paraíso is hardly a newcomer to the thriving hotel scene in Los Cabos (the 20-mile-long stretch of coast between San Jose Del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas), but its tranquil setting, over-the-top luxury accommodations and always-evolving food-and-beverage concepts have kept its following very loyal.

What's the vibe? With Cabo just a two-hour-and-30-minute flight from Los Angeles, expect to see a revolving door of celebrities coming to soak up the sun for a long weekend. But whether you're looking for something romantic, family-friendly, or great with groups of friends – a stay here can be whatever you fancy. With eight swimming pools (including a beachfront infinity pool and a lazy river that flows into a grotto) and an expanse of beachfront, there's no shortage of space to find your own groove.

Tell me about those rooms: They start at 960 square feet and are furnished in a traditional Mexican aesthetic (hand-carved beds, locally made textiles) and feature 300-square-foot private patios. However, what really sets Las Ventanas apart is its stunning array of villas that feel like private homes. Some start at 4,500 square feet and feature one bedroom and ocean views, while others might offer their own media rooms, private gyms and direct beach access. And all of them come with private pools and butlers.

The best suite to book? The premier accommodation at the property – and perhaps all of Los Cabos – is the Ty Warner Mansion. Named for its owner (and Beanie Baby founder), the 28,000-square-foot beachfront villa features an entrance with a reflecting pool, firepit, and living wall; a pair of master suites; a 328-foot-long infinity pool; and a 9,000-square-foot terrace with glass-bottomed lap pool.

Eating and drinking: Whether you're having poolside fish tacos or dining at Arbol – the property's stunning restaurant featuring Indian and Asian–influenced fare – every culinary experience is top notch. While most hotels don't boast an abundance of nightlife, Las Ventanas's La Botica speakeasy piano bar provides a lively setting for those looking for action after 9pm without having to succumb to the Spring Break–vibe options in Cabo San Lucas.
