What makes Blackwood unique is our process. The vast majority of the whiskey industry batches barrels and then fills that whiskey into finishing barrels. We're not batching and finishing. We're bringing in 8-year-old Kentucky straight bourbon and 7-year-old Indiana straight rye and re-barreling each barrel 1:1 in new toasted barrels from Kelvin cooperage — a medium toast/no char barrel and a char 4 and char 2 barrel with medium toast heads.
Since the new toasted barrels are not filled to the top, there's more interaction between the already delicious whiskey and newly toasted wood sugars in the oak. This means that the age of the whiskey is present on the nose, while the new and delicious lush depth of the caramelized wood sugars pops on the palate. This makes Blackwood's Toasted Bourbon and Toasted Rye a truly luxurious sipping experience for every level of whiskey drinker.
