Arriving at Parkview Square, you would be forgiven for thinking that Batman might make an appearance at any moment – such is the area’s resemblance to fictional Gotham. Entering Atlas, the comic strip likeness continues, as a sprawling room with triple-height ceilings draws focus to its expansive and iconic gin library, housed in an 8m tall tower.

A legacy project of Hong Kong property magnate CS Hwang, the building was designed to mimic a grand hotel with a Gatsby-esque feel, embellished with leather furnishings and gilded touches to deliver a truly opulent aura. This impressive and aesthetic package earns the bar the first-ever Bareksten Best Bar Design Award as part of Asia’s 50 Best Bars.

Since Atlas opened, it has made waves with its specialist gin collection, with more than 1,300 labels on offer. In addition, the champagne menu is extensive and head bartender Lidiyanah ‘Yana’ K creates cocktails in keeping with the grand location. The current list, Preservation of Fire, looks to the very origins of cocktail creation as its source of inspiration, with each drink falling under one of four technique-based categories: carbonation, temperature, washing or infusion. The Boterismo Fizz – made with cognac, calvados, white port, cacao, vanilla and ginger ale – offers a refreshing carbonated concoction. The Enfleurage – comprising vanilla butter-washed gin, amaro, jasmine geranium and citrus – offers an education and delicious journey into the history of cocktail clarification. Its takes on the classics, including the flight of three different martini variations, are just as noteworthy.

Having featured on every list of Asia’s 50 Best Bars since 2017, the bar’s consistency and longevity makes it the recipient of the Rémy Martin Legend of the List Award 2024.
