Baba au Rum

Athens

Ingredient-driven Athenian icon

Located in the centre of Athens, Baba Au Rum has played a defining role in shaping the city's modern cocktail identity since opening in 2009. Founded by Thanos Prunarus, the bar describes itself as a "rum and cocktail society", reflected in a back bar of more than 400 rums and a menu that moves between classic tropical references and a more modern, ingredient-driven style. The interior, with its strong 60s influence and touches of pop modernism, adds to the bar's distinct character. Its enduring appeal is reflected in its consistent international recognition, including an 12th consecutive appearance on The World's 50 Best Bars list in 2026, alongside winning the Rémy Martin Legend of the List Award in 2025.

The current menu, Love Letters to Future Selves, continues this direction with a line-up of inventive yet accessible serves. Highlights include the Beatnik Paloma, combining mezcal, beetroot and black cardamom, the savory Bloody Tiger with tomato, vodka, miso and mango, and the aromatic Alien Love Call, built around homemade raspberry vermouth, red bell pepper, sage and chamomile. The room fills up early and rarely slows down, with a crowd that tends to stay for more than one round.
