For the last three years, Gustu in La Paz has been named The Best Restaurant in Bolivia on the Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants list, with a menu and concept promoting 100% local products.

Beyond the fine dining options, Gustu's chef Kamilla Seidler says the strength of Bolivian gastronomy is its street food – and there's plenty of it to go around, with great vendors on every corner.

Here Seidler, recently crowned Latin America's Best Female Chef, gives us her tips for the Bolivian food capital.

Favourite place for coffee: Typica

Bolivian specialty coffees prepared with different methods. Ask the baristas for their recommendations and be sure to buy their freshly roasted grains.

Favourite street food stands: Anticucho and Velas

Ask for one potato on the stick instead of the regular two. This gives you the right to an extra slice of delicious meat!

Fave for a fancy meal: Gustu

Okay, this one is cheating, but... at Gustu, we work exclusively with Bolivian ingredients in our food and drinks. Ask for the tasting menu (regular, vegetarian or vegan) with pairing (with or without alcohol) for a journey through Bolivian biodiversity.
