There's a kookiness about Azafrán that befits this family-run Mendozan stalwart. Starting off as a deli for imported fancy foodstuffs, it was transformed into a deli-meets-restaurant offering the area's best produce before evolving into the modern Argentinian destination it is today. Jars of house-made pickles, jams and sauces line one area of the restaurant in a nod to it's deli history, while another section shows off some of the sommelier's impressive collection of wines. Overseen by chef Sebastián Weigandt, there's an ever-changing three course lunch menu and four course dinner menu, which see local ingredients teased into exciting flavour and texture combinations such as poultry pâté, citrus gel and yoghurt or a twist on the classic local dish Tomaticán Mendocino combining egg yolk cream with smoked tomatoes, roasted red pepper and meringue cream.
