This blink-and-you’ll-miss-it drinking spot in the heart of Melbourne is small but perfectly formed, with a pub-like feel and some top-end drinks. The name is accurate – this was indeed once a caretaker’s cottage – but is now home to a trio of accomplished bartenders that have created an intimate space in which to while away the hours. There’s always Guinness on tap, along with other craft beer options, and a carefully-curated wine list. The cocktail offering is similarly curated, with a House Martini (served from the freezer) leading to just three classics and a handful of contemporary drinks, such as the Original Pirate Material, with applejack,whisky, cherry liqueur and absinthe. Music comes from a collection of vinyl, with bar snacks in the form of a few select dishes, including Welsh rarebit.
