Flower Drum
Melbourne, Australia
This legendary restaurant has been at the forefront of Melbourne's Asian dining scene ever since it opened on Little Bourke Street in 1975. A decade later, as its clientele grew, it relocated to its current, more spacious site on Market Lane, where the opulent Oriental dining room, replete with soft lighting and ruby carpets, is the perfect setting to enjoy produce-led Cantonese sharing plates. Chef Anthony Lui is unafraid of unusual combinations such as double-boiled soup with wallaby tail and loganberry, although it doesn't get any more classic than his signature Peking duck – tender pieces of roast duck in a thin handmade pancake with sweet plum sauce, spring onion and cucumber, prepared theatrically at your table. Lui's son Jason oversees an impressive wine list and the loyal front-of-house team, several of whom have padded these hallowed halls for decades.
