Ante

Sydney, Australia

This Sydney venue takes more than a little inspiration from Japan, and from its jazz kissa-style listening bars in particular, evidenced by the extensive vinyl collection that provides the soundtrack here, played on an exceptional sound system. That Japanese inspiration extends to the drinks on offer here too, starting with a substantial sake list that spans a large number of producers and comes with detailed information on each supplier, making this an ideal spot to explore the diversity of Japan’s national drink. These make an excellent accompaniment for the accomplished food offering here, which contains no small amount of Japanese influence either, from the fried potato mochi to a blue eye katsu sandwich with cabbage and yuzu. Similarly, Ante’s cocktail offering consists of classics with Japanese twists, such as a Tomato Martini made with Japanese spirit shochu, or the House Sazerac 2.0 containing genmaishu sake and mirin alongside rye whiskey and absinthe.
