Cry Baby

Toronto, Canada

Oysters and cocktails take top billing at Cry Baby, a hip industrial bar located inside the unassuming Cry Baby gallery in Toronto’s Little Portugal neighbourhood. The scheme inside the windowless, gritty space is stripped-down, with peeling walls, rough exposed piping, and a wabi-sabi butcher’s block that serves as bar top cultivating serious DIY speakeasy vibes. To contrast the urban digs, the artsy bartenders are ultra-friendly as they mix up amusing cocktails with wacky names, like “Addicted to Love” and “Frosted Tips”. Many of the colourful syrups, infusions and bitters are housemade to keep the creative juices flowing (think beeswax mezcal, mint-infused Cynar, kefir and more), and a small list of low-intervention wines and craft beers from the region round out the menu. It’s never a bad idea to show up early to nab a seat at the bar, as they offer no reservations.
