The legacy in question belongs to the Cheng family, owners of the Rosewood Hotel Group and developers of Kowloon’s Victoria Dockside, of which this dining room offers a bird’s eye view, not least from its spectacular terrace. The restaurant is Rosewood CEO Sonia Cheng’s homage to her billionaire grandfather Cheng Yu-tung, one of Hong Kong’s most famous businessmen, though you would never guess the inspiration from the cool atmosphere of closely packed tables, house music and moody lighting, which conjure up a vibe of gilded youth. The freshwater fish delicacies of Shunde are the house speciality, though the barbecued meats and Peking duck are arguably even better. Cocktails inspired by Chinese ingredients are excellent, while each of the seven private dining rooms has its own bar.
