Waldorf Astoria Shanghai on The Bund

Shanghai, China

In the roaring 1920s and 1930s, the Shanghai Club at No2 The Bund was a legendary venue, where the great and the good would meet for Shanghai Bucks (a cocktail consisting of golden rum, ginger beer and lime) and champagne at the famous 110-foot Long Bar. While the neoclassical heritage building is now home to the Waldorf Astoria, the good times still roll at the bar, an immaculate reproduction of the original. The dining spaces are just as fun, from refined Cantonese at Wai King Kok to the colonnaded all-day Grand Brasserie. Rooms and suites spread out across the original building and a more modern adjacent tower; if you’re staying in the former, expect canopy beds and freestanding bath tubs. Even the entry-level are spacious, many with views across the Huangpu River to the neon-lit skyscrapers beyond. The spa fuses long-cherished Chinese techniques with cutting-edge equipment and highly-skilled therapists - all the treatment rooms come with a steam room and rain shower. There’s an indoor pool and 24-7 gym, too.
