Mandarin Oriental Shenzhen

Shenzhen, China

Stretching from the 67th to the 79th floors of sky-high Tower A of UpperHills Complex, Mandarin Oriental, Shenzhen is not short on bird’s eye views – indeed, it’s the world’s highest MO hotel with vistas of Lotus Hill Park and Bijia Mountain Park, downtown and Shenzhen Bay towards the mountains of Hong Kong. The industrial-chic MO Bar, on the rooftop, is just the place to settle in for the famous 15-minute nighttime display, which transforms the Futian business district skyscrapers into a synchronised show of music and light. But that’s not the only thing that shines about this hotel - rooms and suites are some of the largest in the city, their decor sleek and the marble bathrooms spa-like. Not to be outdone, the dining options are glitzy: The Bay by Chef Fei, all opulent furnishings and soft lighting, offers a Cantonese menu; there’s also steak and seafood at Opus 388 (so called because of its height above sea level – a commanding 388m), Japanese private dining and a buzzy tapas spot. The spa has seven treatment rooms, five of which offer glorious 68th floor views, while the indoor pool has a soaring roof that soars 30 metres high, giving the space the air of a cathedral.
