The glamorous Pier 88 group now extends to six venues across Egypt but for the most dramatic sense of place (and the best views), this outpost on the banks of the Nile in central Cairo is hard to beat. The Italian menu is as breezy as a seat on the waterside terrace, offering an extensive run-down through meat and fish tartares and carpaccios, luxury pastas and swanky steaks, though given the watery location, seafood is the most on-theme order here, whether fried squid or grilled octopus. Cocktails are taken just as seriously as the cooking, not least by the dressed-up crowd who party here from nightfall until the small hours.
