What the Crust

Run by a couple who also share kids and a cat as well as this small restaurant, What the Crust is Africa’s only pizzeria approved by the AVPM, or the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana. Chef Dareen and her operations husband Helmy believe that what unites the world is a universal love of pizza and it would take the hardest of hearts to dispute that claim in this homely labour of love. Dareen turns out pizzas cooked in Neapolitan ovens, made with Egyptian ingredients where possible and Italian where not, from marinara and margherita to diavalo and romana. In true Italian style, extras extend no further than garlic bread and a couple of salads, while a trio of sweet pizzas make the menu as kid-friendly as the owners.
