Savoy

Helsinki, Finland

This 85-year-old restaurant received a new lease of life in 2019 with the arrival of chef-patron Helena Puolakka, whose contemporary take on Finnish cuisine was refined during a high-profile career in in London. Finnish-French cooking with a dash of Russian influence includes Puolakka’s signature take on vorschmack with oven-baked potato, beetroot, pickles and sour cream, while Arctic char, venison, pike and elk are never far away. The eight-floor setting overlooking Espanadi Park is as much of an attraction as the cooking, originally designed by Aino and Alvar Aalto and sensitively made over in co-operation with Helsinki City Museum and the Alvar Aalto Foundation in 2020.
