Château Haut-Brion
Bordeaux, France
Only five estates in Bordeaux rank as 'Premier Cru Classé' and Château Haut-Brion is the oldest. First mentioned in 1521, this illustrious estate is also name-checked in the diaries of Samuel Pepys. In the 17th century, the then-owner, Arnaud de Pontac, pioneered a new style of 'claret' that became the benchmark for the region and is the ancestor for all modern red Bordeaux wine – however, Haut-Brion is also famed for its exceptional white wines too. In addition to its illustrious estates, Domaine Clarence Dillon has a Michelin-starred restaurant in Paris. The estate is open to visitors upon request.
