Founded in 1921 by Eugénie Brazier, the mother of modern Lyonnaise cuisine, La Mère Brazier is a portal back to 1930s France. Think understated elegance, parquet floors, lead-lined windows, white linen tablecloths and mouth-watering wafts from the kitchen, where classic dishes are given modern reinterpretations by chef Mathieu Viannay, who took over in 2008. The menu changes with the seasons but look out for fillet of milk-fed veal with anchovies, pigeon lacquered with lemon and green tea or the legendary lobster stew, to name just a few of the restaurant’s recent triumphs.
