Coretta

Paris, France

Located in North Paris' Clichy-Batignolles district, on the edge of the Martin Luther King park, Coretta was named in honour of the civil rights activist's wife. Opened in 2015 by Matthieu Marcant and Beatriz Gonzalez, the modern, oak-filled space is arranged over two storeys, with the upstairs offering treetop views. Expect local ingredients and colourful garnishes of edible flowers and sprouts, across a playful menu that pitches itself as somewhere between Parisian bistronomy and Mexican flair. Choices might include a zingy gazpacho made with Ananas Zebra tomatoes, a hybrid heirloom variety, topped with prawns and served with artisan bread and herbed butter. Or citrusy ceviche with hibiscus leche de tigre and radishes. Or cod glazed with coffee on a bed of white asparagus with an apricot-carrot-orange sauce. Finish it all off with a refreshing bowl of strawberries with basil ice cream.
