Littera
Tbilisi, Georgia
Tucked away in the historical Sololaki district of old Tbilisi, behind the 120-year-old Writers' House of Georgia building, lies a beautiful garden and courtyard dominated by a towering pine tree. This shady oasis showcases the New Georgian cuisine pioneered by Tekuna Gachechiladze, who fuses traditional flavours with contemporary international influences across the frequently changing menu. Elarji (white grits and cheese) is reimagined as gooey sulguni cheese croquettes with almond sauce; beef tartare is served spiked with adjika (coriander-chilli paste) and pickled bladderwort buds. Filet mignon arrives with wild mushrooms; sea bass in a spinach and soy-ginger reduction. Wash it all down with low-intervention, biodynamic local wines and an impressive selection of Georgian brandies. When dusk falls and the lights are flickering, this is said to be one of the most romantic spots in the city.
