Le Moissonnier proves you don’t have to go to France to enjoy top-notch French cuisine. On the scene for more than 25 years, this bistro in the heart of Cologne could easily have been plucked straight from the streets of Montmartre in Paris. A lively, unpretentious backdrop frames Eric Menchon’s well-composed dishes. Classics include roast turbot in brown butter with liquorice, duck liver pâté with a Gewürtraminer jelly and charcoal-grilled beef short ribs with sauce Mironton. Though you could easily visit just to indulge in the excellent wine list and artisanal cheese cart – truly something to behold.
