Tohru in der Schreiberei

Munich, Germany

Saunter past the museums and theatres of Munich’s old town to discover what is fast on its way to becoming a modern classic of the city’s dining scene. Opened in 2020, Tohru in der Schreiberei garnered two Michelin stars just three months later. Born to a German mother and Japanese father, Tohru Nakamura’s fearless fine dining menus are a creative blend of German ingredients with Japanese techniques and dashes of French flare. Tasting menus consist of 10-courses, each painstakingly detailed and presented with the precision of a surgeon. His aim? To create a ‘unique feast’ and he certainly isn’t shy about unusual flavour pairings. A case in point is the himachi (young amberjack) served with roasted seaweed and salty Comte cheese. His signature selection of petit fours is presented as a tour of Munich’s famous Viktualienmarkt, with each bite representing one of his favourite stands. Neat.
