The result of a partnership between bartender Avinash Kapoli and chef Sombir Choudhary, Bangalore’s Soka brings together a refined aesthetic with party vibes, accompanied by outstanding cocktails and snacks. The interior is impressive, with a long wooden communal table, banquette seating and a beautiful, dramatically-lit bar. Much of the remaining, admittedly-scarce, lighting comes from a large overhead cocoon-shaped lamp, resulting in an intriguing, moody atmosphere. In contrast, the team here know how to raise the energy in the room – expect a festive atmosphere, particularly when there’s a DJ behind the decks. Cocktails are elevated and artfully presented and the snacks are worthy accompaniments. Start with a Pi Pi Martini, pairing Indian gin with jujube-pickled brine and dry vermouth alongside one of the micro plates on offer, like a tempura avocado taco, followed by the Made in Heaven with aged and coconut rums combined with frozen strawberries, coconut milk and pineapple.
