Trishna

Mumbai, India

Even though it opened in 1991, Trishna is still widely regarded as Mumbai's favourite seafood restaurant. It's set in the intriguing streets of the hip Kala Ghoda area and is popular with travellers, locals and celebrities alike. The lengthy menu may seem overwhelming at first – there are 21 sauce options for the king prawn alone – but rest assured everything is exceptional. Most come to sample the legendary Koliwada prawns, but save room for the fresh jumbo crab with lashings of butter, pepper and garlic, the seafood biryani or the Bombay duck (a type of fish). The salmon coated and cooked in black pepper is also a hit. Overlook the simple decor and the fact that it can get noisy – Trishna is all about the freshest fruits of the ocean, as its hordes of daily customers will testify.
