Francescana at Maria Luigia

Modena, Italy

Massimo Bottura's Osteria Francescana is without doubt the gold standard of Italian fine dining, twice topping The World's 50 Best Restaurants list and now holding Best of the Best status, gaining a cult-like following along the way. Now though, it has a rural sister restaurant on the outskirts of Modena, within Bottura's 12-room boutique hotel, Casa Maria Luigia. Here you can get a full Osteria Francescana tasting menu experience with nine courses, given quirky names like 'the crunchy part of the lasagna' and 'beautiful psychedelic, spin painted veal, charcoal grilled with glorious colors as a painting'. Hotel guests can also enjoy Bottura's take on breakfast, plus there's a Sunday brunch with live music – note that non-residents can book in for brunch, lunch and dinner but priority is given to those staying overnight which seems like a good enough excuse to take a room...
