Franceschetta58

Modena, Italy

Franceschetta58 is the baby of the Bottura restaurant family, a nod given to affordability by Modena's most famous chef. A quirky little dining room with higgledy-piggledy patterned plates on the walls, a giant I heart Modena vinyl in the windows and colourful mismatched dining chairs. It's a statement of intent, that this is not the place for reverence and ceremony, hell there's even an á la carte menu, and both versions of the tasting menu (one seasonal and one of perennial classics) come in at significantly less than $100 per person. Dishes include stuffed chicken leg with plum and celeriac, smoked eel risotto, plus a dessert of pears peach tarte tatin with mustard seeds and salted caramel ice cream. As for the wine list, it's small but effective with a good chunk given over to organic bottles made by local producers.
