La Madonnina del Pescatore

Senigallia, Italy

La Madonnina del Pescatore is all about the sea, from its name to its view across the Adriatic. This coastal retreat has been operating since 1984 under the watchful eye of chef Moreno Cedroni. The cuisine here is – rather logically – dominated by fish and seafood but is bolstered with produce from the kitchen garden. Three tasting menus are available, one named for Cedroni's business partner (and wife) Mariella, one dedicated to Childhood Memories and a third somewhat surprisingly stipulates it contains No Fish, then goes on to include fish in the vast majority of the 14 courses. Good news, considering the quality of the produce. Dishes are experimental and exciting, belyling the restaurant's 39-year tenure, including the grilled sea eel, scent of laurel, turnip and fermented purple cabbage and the prawns, yuzu mayonnaise, sweet and sour onion, smoked leeks fumé.
