Cocktail Bar Raven in Tokyo’s Edogawa City is a five-seat, hidden cocktail bar known for its playful, yet detail-oriented approach to cocktails, and its impressive curation of fine spirits and rare sakes. What sets Raven apart is its focus on fostering a sense of discovery as the bartender carefully listens to guests–their interests, likes and dislikes–with the hopes of guiding them towards something new that they’ve never had before. They also have an extensive menu of twists on classics, such as the Kai-pirinha, a unique take on the Brazilian Caipirinha that features oysters and whisky (Kai means shellfish in Japanese), which is a saline and umami twist on the otherwise refreshing drink. While sips such as the Pisco Colada (pisco, coconut, cream, pineapple) and Ardbeg Alexander, a heavily smoked house signature born from customer requests and inspired by classic Brandy Alexander, are further examples of Raven’s inventiveness. It’s cosy, unpretentious and a favourite among locals and foreigners alike.
