686 Bar

Mexico City, Mexico

Above Mexico City’s Em Restaurant, which marries Japanese and Mexican cuisines beautifully, presented omakase style, is the elegant 686 Bar. A dimly lit, sumptuous space with rich, dark tones, you’ll want to take your time exploring the varied cocktail list, with a concise list of classics, as well as signature drinks that mostly take their inspiration from the classics too. The Tonala 686 pairs Strega Liqueur and yuzu with sparkling wine, while the bar’s take on a Martinez incorporates Mexican spirit sotol. There’s a well-curated list of the country’s spirits, alongside a handful of whiskies from around the world, and, as a nod to the restaurant’s influences, a sake list too. Bar snacks are firmly back in Mexico, with everything from roasted baby corn to a smoked Oaxaca cheese croquette.
