Azul Histórico
Mexico City, Mexico
Between trees festooned with candles and beneath a retractable roof, the open-air courtyard of Azul Histórico in the 17th-century Downtown Mexico Hotel certainly sets the scene for a romantic dinner. Chef and owner Ricardo Muñoz Zurita is a real history buff, and his time-honoured recipes remain true to their origins, from classic guacamole and cochinita pibil to black molé from Oaxaca and pork tacos. Don’t expect a meal full of experimental flourishes – this is the place to be for comfort-food classics done well. It’s the perfect post-shop pit-stop after exhausting the stores upstairs and a calm oasis amid the hustle and bustle of downtown Mexico City.
