Four Seasons Naviva

Punta Mita, Mexico

As first impressions go, Naviva, A Four Seasons resort is impressive. Guests must cross a bamboo bridge, above a forest ravine, to reach this jungly all-inclusive, adults-only hotel, which nestles amongst rainforest canopy on a 48-acre site at the northern tip of Bahía de Banderas. The design takes its cue from the landscape with hand-carved woods and natural stone throughout. Each of the 15 bungalow-style, standalone tents are set beneath giant palm fronds, with views stretching over the treetops and out towards Mexico’s Pacific Ocean (don’t forget your camera, the sunsets are quite something). Full-height glass doors are the only thing separating the sleeping and lounging areas from an expansive wooden deck with a private pool and, in some cases, firepit. Days here run to your tempo, whether that’s sunbathing, spa-ing and forest bathing or upping the beats-per-minute by power hiking, boxing or on an exhilarating snorkel safari. Dining is equally go-with-the-flow, with the central open-air kitchen sending out fresh-from-the-sea fish and locally picked produce cooked over an open fire. Other dining highlights include the pretty Garden Grotto and toes-in-the-sand beach picnics. It may be only a 45-drive from the international airport, but this glamping sanctuary feels a world away.
