Sesamo is about as close as one can get to Italy within Morocco without hopping on a boat. This Marrakech restaurant is the brainchild of chef Massimiliano Alajmo of Le Calandre fame, who has earned himself the nickname of ‘the Mozart of Italian cuisine’. Alajmo knows his Italian food. Resultantly, Sesamo doesn’t try to interfere with the dishes that have stood the test of time. Its menu, split into antipasti, primi, secondi and dolci, would not be out of place in the finest Roman restaurant. Classics, such as spaghetti aglio e olio and tagliolini with squid ink pasta, all make an appearance, each accomplished and well-balanced. Its Neapolitan-style pizzas are equally authentic renditions, with light and airy crusts adorned with perfect leoparding. Hammering home its European identity, the restaurant's interior and exterior illicit the ambience of a sun-soaked Italian villa, complete with lavish vintage decoration, tropical plants and a surplus of terracotta. Sesamo does more than just serve Italian cuisine, it delivers the full package of Italian hospitality.
