Daalder

Amsterdam, Netherlands

It’s not every day that you come across a restaurant with a European-style pavement café outside and an Asian bistro complete with anime-style murals and a ceiling installation of neon rings inside, but that is exactly what Daalder offers. This is Michelin-starred dining that doesn’t take itself too seriously but don’t be fooled. The soundtrack may be the sort of pop music you play at a summer barbecue and the waiting staff address you like old friends but Dennis Huwaë is as skilled as they come. A three-course lunch menu including wine for 99euros is great value, but it’s definitely worth opting for the full seven courses served in the evening if you can. Gourmet versions of favourites like stroopwafel’s and his signature satay amuse-bouche are offered alongside quirky surprises – yes lobster with chamomile and minestrone, we’re looking at you.
