Quinta da Aveleda

Country garden elegance awaits at this family-owned quinta half an hour from Porto, surrounded by picturesque grounds dating back to the seventeenth century. Filled with fountains and follies, the eight hectares host more than 114 species of plants and ancient trees including a 300-year-old eucalyptus, plus peacocks, swans, chickens, geese and a set of goats with their own stone house. Concise tours lasting 45 minutes provide an introduction before heading down to the cellar, built in 1850, and tastings are best enjoyed on the verandah accompanied by homemade cheeses.
