Get in amongst the lush greenery of Vinho Verde at the three-bedroom cottage on Soalheiro’s tea plantation, in Melgaço. A herbal infusion made from your surroundings sets the tone for a day packed with food and drinks made by this family estate dating back to the 1970s. They are experts at Alvarinho, produced from their own 14 hectares of organic vineyards (including the highest Alvarinho plots in Portugal, near the Peneda-Gerês National Park) and prime fruit from a ‘club’ of 150 local grape-growing families. Dinner takes place at their smokehouse, Quinta de Folga, three courses featuring homegrown organic vegetables and cured meats from their indigenous Bísaro pigs.
