Once the officers’ mess of the British Royal Artillery regiment’s Singapore outfit has been transformed into one of the Lion City’s most luxurious stays. In addition to the original colonial-era building, which dates back to the 1880s, the hotel’s expansion added sweeping new curved wings to the property that now melds Singapore’s past and present into a singular hospitality package. Space is a luxury in Singapore, but Capella has it in spades. Sporting a three-tier pool and views over the South China Sea, the sense of tranquillity across the hotel’s 30-acre estate on Sentosa Island make it hard to believe the bustle of Singapore exists somewhere just beyond the treeline. Interiors of the hotel are the handiwork of Indonesian designer Jaya Ibrahim and elicit a calming aura. Each of the 112 rooms across the original and added wings also combine the old and new, with stained wood and modern East Asian pared-back opulence. All lodgings also sport balconies and large windows that help guests lean into its rainforest-like setting. The hotel is also home to a number of lauded eateries, including renowned Cantonese restaurant Cassia and Fiamma, created by Mauro Colagreco of Mirazur fame.
