This is the culmination of a dream for chef Darren Badenhorst, who bought the space formerly known as Kalfies and transformed it into a platform for Gallic inspired cuisine (the name literally translates as 'the French corner'). A smart dining room – high ceilings, pendant lighting, a feature spiral staircase – is a fitting space for meals designed to be long, lingering affairs. Chef Marvin helms the kitchen, having learnt his craft in some of the Cape Winelands' top kitchens. There is a choice of tasting menus, with vegetarians well catered for. From the bread (sourdough with citrus butter) to the yellowtail pastrami, nasturtium pesto and lemon labneh amuse bouche to the mains such as poached West Coast sole with citrus and squid ink spray, and delicate desserts (such as chocolate crèmeux with candied hazelnut salted caramel ice cream), a feast for the senses awaits.
