Designed to celebrate the simple pleasure of sharing good food and conversation at a price that won’t break the bank, Post & Pepper was launched in 2022 by chef-owner Jess van Dyk, formerly of Franschhoek’s Protégé. Housed within the old Stellenbosch’s Post Office – the oldest in the country – the dining room eschews linen tablecloths and stuffy service in favour of wooden tables and chairs, soft lighting and vintage touches, which combine to create a cosy ambience. The menu is a celebration of the flavours van Dyk grew up enjoying in the Northern Cape such as koeksisters (fried dough twists drenched in syrup) and skaapstertjies (mutton tails) cooked on the braai. Global influences are also at play, as demonstrated by the likes of Thai-style sashimi and Hawaiian oysters served with coriander tiger’s milk, pineapple salsa, yoghurt pearls and lime leaf oil.
