Freewheeling Libertine is one of the sexiest cocktail bar spaces to open in Barcelona in recent years. Money green neon hues punctuate the space, with tables well separated to suit clandestine drinking encounters. A full-length dark wood bar runs the left perimeter of the space, where some of Spain’s top bartenders mainline classic serves, masterminded by globetrotting American bar consultant Eric Stephenson. Stephenson understands the way Barcelona’s cosmopolitan cocktail community wants to drink, with classic hotel bar vibes and a menu that majors in gin, while also running a fine line in agave-spirit serves. House favourites such as Shiso + Apple, Bergamot + Grapefruit and Picador show its mixed application of texture, temperature and dilution with aplomb. Bonus point: Libertine played host to the Bartenders’ Feast when The World’s 50 Best Bars came to Barcelona in October 2022.
