Gini calls itself Colombo’s finest dining experience – but it should really bill itself as a brilliant place for drinks, too. The indoor-outdoor atmosphere of the modern dining space, framed by a kitchen complete with its own wood-fired oven, draws legions of fans coming for unique Sri Lankan flavours; think Moratuwa oysters, prawn sausage with curry aioli, Negombo crab curry and coconut-crusted fish. But the drinks programme is impressive in itself with a host of unnamed cocktails containing just three or four ingredients. Arrack with kithul palm and lime. Rum with passion fruit and vanilla. Mezcal with pineapple, kithul palm and nutmeg. The principle is simple, fresh and locally sourced, served at the bar stools that line that open kitchen or at tables wafted by tropical greenery.
